On 16 October 1822, La Fraternelle Mutual Fire Insurance Society was founded in Guernsey as a mutual company offering fire and lightning protection for buildings, furniture, cattle, and crops (excluding money and documents), initially for a three-year term. It was periodically renewed until 1 October 1912, when members resolved to continue the Society indefinitely.
Today, the policy coverage remains largely consistent, with added options for Subsidence, Accidental Damage, and All Risks.
In February 2005, Guernsey Alliance Insurance Society prepared to cease trading. Orion Insurance Management agreed to absorb its business from 1 December 2015, merging 700 GAIS policies into La Fraternelle. Four GAIS directors joined La Fraternelle’s Board on 1 November 2005.
In 2025, La Fraternelle rebranded as LFM Home Insurance, which now operates across the Bailiwick of Guernsey directly or via SPF Private Clients Ltd.
